Dug out from a dusty area

Works drawn in sec 2 when I was bored. My style was really different back then! This was my first attempt to draw in manga style!

That random line in her hair is an accidental stroke of the pen. :/ I thought she looked cute.

......................

I was like smiling when I saw this six characters! I must be really bored on that day... Sec 2 brings back loads of memories, of basketball and of 201... Sec 2 was the most memorable year of all. I was not a studious person then :P
I am like digging out my sec 2 works now.

AEP Sec 2 EOY (:

Me, Myself and I
Watercolour
2010
A4

This is not the real copy of the original...It is the second version. Cos the first version was attacked by water and the watercolour was badly smudged...So I repainted this work(Well, at that time I had a lot of time cos I was resting at home for recovery purposes).

Looking back now, that work really meant a lot to me at that time cos it was like a self reflection then. The work makes use of symbolism, and the main objects inside are the basketball, paintbrush and poker cards(the whole painting is framed like a poker card). It reflects what I really loved at that time. Basketball - no words can describe my feelings towards it...even until now, watching a game of basketball makes my adrenaline rush and my heart will start to beat rapidly. But it was the most significant part of my school life then, so all I cared about was basketball when I was sec 2! Now, all will be memories, but I am thankful that basketball made its way into my life.

The paintbrush represents art. And the paintbrush depicted inside the painting is one of the brushes that I have received from my teammates as a birthday present in sec 1, so it is extremely precious to me. As for the poker card, I loved collecting all sorts of poker cards(I still do now!) and the card number, 14(which  is non-existent in a usual set of poker cards) means a lot to me! It was my basketball jersey number in sec 2! (: As for the diamond, it holds a really special meaning that dates back to primary school! It is a symbolism of friendship and you can guess the other details! (:

Picasso says that: "Painting is another way of keeping a diary". I agree. (: This is my diary(:

A career as an artist

I am bored from studying physics...shall just write what is on my mind now(:

Personally, I admire people who chose to be an artist as their lifelong career. No matter what type, what kind of work they produce, I believe that they should be respected. It takes a lot of courage to pursue art as a career as the journey of being an artist is a rocky one, one that is full of surprises and obstacles. There are so many so called 'more stable jobs' out there, like being an engineer, banker, accountant, doctor....so why be an artist? It is like taking a risk and facing the odds willingly.

Art may not necessarily be the best job to take to earn money, in some cases, artists do art without earning money(like mr mike chang). I admire this type of artist as I feel that someone should do art because they like art, not because they want to earn money. However, in reality, we have to have an income or else we may just end up in poverty... @_@ but there are still artists out there who do art to express themselves and ignore what the public says about heir art. It takes a lot of courage to churn out art pieces that may not be well received by society, and I feel that we should at least appreciate and acknowledge their courage. In order to be an artist in today's society, where the notion of art is constantly morphing and changing, artists must have a strong mentality and most importantly, a strong burning passion for art. If artists are so such expressive beings with a strong soul, why are artists looked down upon? Doctors, architects, lawyers are careers which are recognized and respected, but why not artists? I strongly think that artists should be more respected as they have the courage to stand up against tradition.

If everyone is an engineer, an accountant, a teacher, a surgeon...and there are no artists around, won't the world just lose its color and vibrancy? I believe that art is what keeps the world thinking and questioning as people will be pondering over the meanings of controversial art. Art is what keeps our world alive.

So artists are important, as they ensure that creativity and the freedom of expression does not die down.
